چکیده

Purpose: This paper evaluates the outcomes of parathyroidectomy for primary hyperparathyroidism with negative localization studies. Methods: All patients preoperative ultrasound and MIBI scan who underwent were retrospectively included. Three groups defined. Group 1 included MIBI. 2 positive 3 Results: In 1, 51% 86% had one adenoma atypical localizations respectively. Unique showed in 87% 93% 3, 83% 17% No cervical hematoma was noted. HYPOTHESIS For patients with primary hyperparathyroidism and patients with 2 localization studies showing the same single location of parathyroid disease, use of intraoperative parathyroid hormone (IOPTH) measurement does not significantly increase the success of minimally invasive parathyroidectomy. Localization studies in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism.

Primary hyperparathyroidism (HPT) is currently the most common cause of hypercalcaemia in ambulatory patients and is second only to cancer-related hypercalcaemia in hospitalized patients. Approximately 1 in every 1000 adults have HPT and the incidence is even higher in selected population groups such as elderly women in which 1 in 200 have been found to have this disease. The apparent increase ...

Echocardiogram changes following parathyroidectomy for primary hyperparathyroidism

The aim of the study is to systematically review the evidence on post parathyroidectomy (PTX) changes as measured by echocardiogram (ECHO) in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT).PHPT may increase risk of cardiovascular morbidity/mortality. Conclusions of studies assessing ECHO changes, pre versus post PTX, are inconsistent.A systematic literature search was conducted to locate publ...

Is focused parathyroidectomy appropriate for patients with primary hyperparathyroidism?

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to determine whether focused or complete parathyroidectomy was more appropriate and to compare follow-up data in primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 225 operations for PHPT at Yonsei University Health System between 2000 and 2012. After excluding 93 patients, the remaining 132 were divided into 2 groups: those who underwent...

Declining Rates of Inpatient Parathyroidectomy for Primary Hyperparathyroidism in the US

Parathyroidectomy is the only curative therapy for patients with primary hyperparathyroidism. However, the incidence, correlates and consequences of parathyroidectomy for primary hyperparathyroidism across the entire US population are unknown. We evaluated temporal trends in rates of inpatient parathyroidectomy for primary hyperparathyroidism, and associated in-hospital mortality, length of sta...
